Brother Joscephus and the Love Revolution
Often touted as one of the best live bands in the land, Brother Joscephus and the Love Revolution received official confirmation of this widespread acclaim when they recently won the Independent Music Awards “Best Live Performance” category. The two main visionaries – Brother Joscephus and his eccentric cohort, The Right Reverend Dean Dawg – dip heavily into a musical gumbo rich with old school soul, roots, classic rock stylings, New Orleans rhythms, and feel-good “secular gospel” music. Straight from NJ’s legendary music scene, comes an unstoppable collision of likeminded influence, chemistry and a true love for country music. Singer and performer powerhouse Reagan Richards and producer/multi-instrumentalist Gordon Brown have come together to show the world their love for modern country by building on the years of tradition, harmonies and story songs the genre continues to pride itself on. Reagan has been a backing vocalist for many major artists including Cheap Trick, Jon Bon Jovi and among others while Gordon has toured the world as a guitarist and continues to write for acts like Audrey Kate (ABC’s Rising Star) and Audra McLaughlin (NBC’s The Voice) among others. West Philadelphia Orchestra is a brass band inspired by the Romani brass “orkestars” and “fanfares” of Eastern Europe. Founded in 2006, WPO became a village band for their neighborhood, performing at parks, rocking street festivals and collaborating with community theaters. By 2008, they were being called to perform across the country, even as far as Mexico City, and they also released their first studio album, WPO, in 2008. In 2016, they released their second studio album, Tour de Filly. With driving percussion, pirouetting tuba, wailing reeds and blaring trumpets, WPO’s sound hits hard and lifts the spirits. Every band has a beginning, and Funkylicious started with the groove individually. It was only a matter of time before they became one band under a groove to have a funky time. Still going strong, the band will be appearing at Appel Farm’s first annual South Jersey Fest. Check out their video.
From Ithaca, NY, Joe Crookston is a songwriter, guitarist, painter, fiddler, eco-village member and believer in all things possible. Named 2016 Folk Alliance International Artist-in Residence and signed to Tamulevich Artist Management, Joe’s live performances are multi-media celebrations of art and possibility with looped fiddle, video, slide guitar and songs. A recipient of a year-long songwriting grant from the Rockefeller Foundation, Joe traveled throughout New York State, collecting stories and writing original songs. Check out his music!
Adobe Fish Sauce
A Puerto Rican and a Cambodian walk into a kitchen. The kitchen is your heart. The food is made with food. The food is sometimes poems. Either way you are fed. Adobo-Fish-Sauce is an active choice to celebrate in the face of bitterness. It is responding to “Go back to where you come from!” by bringing where they come from right to you. The show fuses spoken word, cooking, music, crying and laughing to create a one of a kind experience that can’t be found in any restaurant or open mic. Check out their Youtube to learn more!
Alborado Spanish Dance Theatre
Founded in 1965, Maria Alba an aficionado of siguiriya and Spanish dance, created the Alborado Spanish Dance Theatre. The fiery flamenco dances illustrates the rich diversity of Spanish culture in the region. Previously showcased on NJN TV’s Images/Imagenes, the Emmy-award winning program “The Spanish Guitar”, and at the Festival of Dance at NJ PAC, Appel Farm welcomes Alborado Spanish Dance Theatre to the main stage at the festival. Audiences will be mesmerized by the lively and intoxicating performance. Check out their video.
Community Bollywood Dance Project
Swati Chaturvedi introduces the rhythms and traditions of her native India in her “Community Bollywood Dance Project” which offers dance instruction, workshops, and performance at community festivals across the Greater Philadelphia region. Watch their performance and then visit them in our Performance Art Tent for a workshop designed to introduce visitors to the dance traditions and culture of India. Visit Swati’s YouTube channel.
Adam Travis and the Soul
Adam’s heart, soul, and performing roots can be found in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Thanks to middle school jazz band, high school marching band, weekly open mics, and garage rock bands, Adam realized that pursuing a career in music was the only route to go. Check out Adam’s YouTube.
Opening the Festival on Sunday, June 3rd, these Cape May County musicians Nate, Chris and Marnie perform a mix of Bluegrass and folk rock covers and originals. What better way to start our second day?
